پيش بيني ميشود خسارات ناشي از بارش سيل آساي باران در كيپ جنوبي و شرقي ميليونها راند خسارت وارد كند. همچنين نيروي هوايي آفريقاي جنوبي با كمك نيروي هوايي لسوتو ۳۰ نفر را كه در برف گير افتاده بودند نجات دادند.

Damage caused by torrential rains that battered the Eastern and Southern Cape regions is expected to run into millions of rands. The deluge of rain left thousands of people temporarily homeless while scores of others lost everything. As the the rains pelted down, snow trapped more than 30 people, including South Africans, in the Maluti Mountains since Tuesday.
They have now been brought to safety after a joint rescue operation between the South African Air Force and the Lesotho Air Wing. Poor visibility delayed the rescue and it is still unclear if more people are missing. Some of them were trapped for three days in their vehicles. One of them a South African, on his way back to Maseru. He and a Lesotho taxi driver got trapped in Thaba Putsoa area, south-east of Maseru.
A single blanket for warmth and snow to eat kept them alive. His plea to the South African government through SABC news probably saved his life. Shadrack Mosoeu, a survivor, says he thought he was going to die. "I am very happy now and I will only believe that I was rescued when I wake up tomorrow morning," Mosoeu said.
Two choppers from the South African Air Force base outside Bloemfontein helped with the rescue mission. Captain Henk Pieterson, a pilot, says at least 20 people were moved to safety. Mainly elderly residents trapped in mountain villages were brought to nearby Lesotho towns for safety. No one sustained serious injuries.

۹۰۰ ostriches killed in Little Karoo floods

It has now been established that at least 900 ostriches have died in the Little Karoo floods. The number is expected to increase as more farmers are expected to hand in reports. Hein Jonker, chairperson of Agri Klein Karoo, says the floods came only a few weeks after the European Union ban of all ostrich meat from the area following the outbreak of bird flu. Jonker says this was a double blow for the farmers.
"It is very difficult for the ostrich farmers at the moment. Financially everyone is struggling and we will be asking from the government for assistance," Jonker said.
